1, the structure of the parts and production conditions and scale to adapt

Single-piece or low-volume production parts should make full use of existing production conditions. For example, gear blanks with a diameter of more than 600 mm are difficult to forge with common forging equipment and should be cast or welded. In single-piece or low-volume production, castings or forgings should not be used to avoid expensive molds (especially forging) that increase part costs. If there is no grinding machine tool, do not use heat treatment methods with high hardness on the tooth surface and heat deformation.

2, reasonable selection of blanks

Blanks for parts can be castings, forgings, rolled parts, welded parts and stamped parts. The selection of blanks should take into account the size of the production batch, material properties and processing properties. For forgings, free forging is suitable for single-piece or small-batch production, and forging is suitable for mass production.

3, the structure and shape should be simple and reasonable

The more complex the structure and shape of the parts, the more difficult it is to manufacture, assemble, and maintain, and the higher the cost. Therefore, simple cylinder surfaces, flat surfaces, conjugate surfaces, and combinations thereof should be used as much as possible to minimize the number of surfaces to be machined. The area of the machined surface should be the same size (diameter, fillet radius, fit size and tolerance, thread diameter, number of threads and pitch, gear module, etc.) as much as possible.

4, provides a reasonable manufacturing accuracy and surface roughness

If the manufacturing accuracy is too high and the surface roughness value is too low, the manufacturing costs of the mechanical parts will be significantly increased. Therefore, under the premise of satisfying the use requirements, the manufacturing precision should be reduced as much as possible and the surface roughness value should be increased.

5, to meet the requirements of heat treatment

In order to avoid deformation during heat treatment, cracking or to reduce the quality of heat treatment (such as insufficient hardness, soft spots, low strength, thin or uneven carburized layer, etc.), the geometry of the part should be simple, symmetrical, and the ratio of length to diameter must not be too large. Source of stress concentration, uniform cross-section, no sharp edges and sharp corners, avoid non-through holes, match holes and local carburizing, nitriding and so on. Parts should also have sufficient stiffness. In order to make the hardened film not easily adhered, cooled evenly and deformed little, there is a certain requirement for the surface roughness of the parts.

6, consider the process of assembly and disassembly

In the design, it should be considered that the parts can be easily assembled and disassembled, and the workload of assembly and disassembly can be reduced as much as possible, and the convenience and economy of handling, installation, use and maintenance should also be considered.
